Using decorative imagery, I create, alter, and modify patterns to fit within the boundaries of a canvas. Every painting that I create assimilates the idea of decoration not only as a concept, but also changing the idea of decoration from being solely decorative, to rooted within a concept as well. If I can change a pattern so drastically by using mixed media, layering, adding texture, and other techniques, then the surface that the patterns exist on become less important. The focus is now on how the patterns transform the space that they have been made for. This body of work is to be looked at as both Decorative Art and Fine Art, where the main goal is to have the fundamental notion of decoration and Decorative Arts looked at with more diversity and dimension.
